Psychic Gifts and How They Work
Everyone has some psychic potential and can develop the gifts they have been given; it’s just a matter of discovering what those gifts are and finding a teacher to help you learn to effectively and safely develop them. There are many different psychic abilities that can manifest during a lifetime. Some are subtle while others can be quite remarkable in their presentations.
Some gifts present naturally without any work on the part of the psychic. These include:
Clairvoyance is the ability to see “objects or actions removed from normal viewing”, i.e., being in Jacksonville and “seeing” your great aunt in the hospital in Utah in a vision, or knowing that your sister is having a boy before the pregnancy test comes back.
Clairaudience is the ability to hear things out of the normal, like the voice of your spirit guide or a relative who has crossed to the other side. This would appear to be an outside voice as opposed to a voice from within.
Intuition is definitely a talent that everyone is born having, as parents with small children can attest, but somewhere in the years between kindergarten and third grade most of us learn to either ignore it, shut it down, or not speak of it to others. We learn quickly that knowing things others may not be aware of and sharing that knowledge does not make us popular. It can alienate us from our peers, make us the recipient of ridicule and derision, and cause us to seriously doubt the validity of the information that we are receiving. Unfortunately, children who are quite open when small are forced by the attitudes of parents, siblings, teachers, and peers to shut down the ability and to be quiet about what they receive. Intuition cannot be denied, however, especially in the bond between mother and child. Many women have a bond so strong with their children that they instinctively know when they are ill at school and can tell if another child is ill just by looking at him or her.
Visions can occur in several different ways. A vision can be so strong that it momentarily shuts out the physical happenings around the receiver and causes the psychic to focus only on it. It can last for several seconds or several hours, depending on the intensity and the meaning to the receiver. A vision can be a spontaneous past life flashback that shows a “snapshot” of another life or it can be a very detailed look at another time and place.
I had a spontaneous flashback to the palace of Versailles during a meditation in which I stood before one of the gilded mirrors in the Hall of Mirrors and saw my reflection staring back at me. I saw very clearly the style and color of the gown I was wearing and the elaborate way in which my hair was styled. Another very lengthy vision entailed my guides escorting me to an undersea ruin of an Atlantean healing temple. I was taken on a tour of the building and shown through a flashback how the healing chamber worked with color and light and sound waves permeating the physical body of the patient. This particular vision occurred one night as I was in bed before falling asleep and lasted more than two hours. At one point, I had to get up at attend to nature’s call and the vision continued the moment I again closed my eyes. I was not asleep, nor was I meditating when it began. It was totally spontaneous on my part.
Other visions may be very spiritual in nature and show you part of your earthly mission. In this case, you may be led on contacted by your spiritual guide or teacher and may be accompanied by your Guardian Angel. This is similar to the Native American spirit quest in which a young person retires in seclusion to see the animal spirit that will guide him and be told of his place and function in the tribe.
There are some psychic gifts that occur naturally but may be enhanced by further learning and practice or the use of focusing tools that promote concentration. These include:
Tarot cards come in all sizes and styles and the interpretations change from deck to deck. The psychics who rely on these use them strictly to focus. The client shuffles the cards and thinks of the information she wished to know. The client’s energy on the cards and the energy of the person assists the psychic to intuitively read the events and trends in the client’s life. Please note that the psychic is not telling the client’s future. All he/she can see is the current trend in the client’s life based upon her current behavior. The client can at any time change the trend by changing the behavior, thus opening a new direction. Understand that free will can be used at any moment to completely alter one’s life and circumstances. If you want to change your life, make a different decision.
Numerology entails a complicated system of assigning numbers to the letters of the alphabet to derive the meaning of names and characteristics of personality based upon the resulting numbers and combinations. There are several different methods of using numerology. Which one a psychic uses depends on the methods used by his/her teacher or the ease in which the method works for the psychic.
Runes are a Celtic type of small ceramic tile inscribed with a figure, far older than tarot cards but used much the same way. In both cases, the psychic learns the traditional meaning of the card or Rune but interprets the meaning also using the intuitive information he is receiving.
The Chinese I-Ching is also similar. Specific meanings are assigned to the patterns in which the I-Ching sticks fall
Palm reading interprets on the lines found in the palm of the hand and the shape of the hand and fingers. Although there have been countless books written about palmistry, this is another of the psychic arts that relies on the powers of intuition.
There are others like tea reading and phrenology (reading the bumps on the head), but the most difficult to learn and the most complicated, just for the sheer amount of material to be accessed is astrology, deciphering the star and planetary patterns and movements to determine personality traits and possible future events.
Let me make this very clear to all: astrology is a science as well as an art. It is far older than the science of astronomy, which owes its very existence to this very ancient art. Those who practice astrology study for years, sometimes a lifetime, as new information is gathered and new theories are formulated. Astrologers many years before the astronomers’ telescopes picked out the minuscule dots in the night sky predicted the discovery of the furthermost planets in our solar system, Pluto and Neptune. This was due to the fluctuations in the charts the astrologers prepared that could not be attributed to any previously known cause. The astronomical find actually corroborated the astrologers’ theories!
If astrology appeals to you, be prepared to study long and hard to master the many aspects of this discipline. You must learn the stars and what traits they endow on those born under their light. You must learn the planets and their movements and discern how they influence the chart. You must learn the house placement and the areas of life, physical, mental, and spiritual they influence and you must master the intricate and precise mathematical calculations required to construct a natal chart based on date, time, and exact geographical location of a person’s birth. Astrology is a most worthwhile discipline to master. Note the word discipline is used precisely in this manner!
There may be other psychic gifts and arts to discuss, but these are the major ones on which most practicing psychics rely for receiving and interpreting information. There are numerous books available at major bookstores and Amazon.com carries a large number also.
I like to hold books in my hand before purchasing them, however, to read the covers and the table of contents and to feel their energy so I know before I get them home if the information is worth the price of the book and the time investment in reading it.
