Timing is Everything! I am often reminded of the bumper sticker I saw years ago that said, “God grant me patience…and I want it right now!” We humans are like children waiting for Christmas morning when we have asked God for something. We look for it everyday and grow very quickly impatient and discouraged when it does not materialize before us when we think it should. Whether we have asked for the promotion, or an increase in income, or the meeting with that right someone, we want it “right now.” Spirit, however, does not work on our timetable. Rather, Spirit and God bring forth into our lives those things, which we have requested, in Divine Timing, or Divine Order. I have used the analogy of life from a human point of view as looking at the underneath of a tapestry or needlepoint in progress. From our vantage point on earth, we see the loose threads, the knots, and the seeming chaotic crisscross of colors weaving to and fro in the pattern of life. We look at it and nothing makes sense to us. We cannot see the pattern, cannot discern the direction. We not only cannot tell where we are heading, some days we have trouble knowing where we are and how we arrived there. “Give me a sign, God,” we ask. But what we mean is, “Show me a billboard! Give me a map. Help me see that I am not really lost and alone.” And of course, we are not alone. We are always surrounded and assisted by those in Spirit sent by God to accompany us on this path of life. But some days, fellow travelers, it is hard. There are times in our lives when we feel desperate and lose sight of the presence of God and the angels as a constant in our lives. Perhaps money is tight and the electric company is demanding payment today. Perhaps a loved one is dealing with a serious illness, or conditions at work or home need to be improved and uplifted. It is very difficult to have patience and to remember to trust that Spirit/God always has a handle on the situations and circumstances in our lives. But the answer to our prayers and the solutions to our dilemmas are always forthcoming, though not always as quickly as we would like to see. Everything happens for a reason. There are no accidents and no coincidences in life, I believe. There are lessons and learning opportunities in every experience that comes to us whether pleasant or painful. Sometimes we are given the lesson of patience. We are not given the gift of patience in these times. We are given a particularly vexing or irritating situation or person to deal with in order to have the opportunity of developing patience. Which leads me to suggest that you never ask for patience, for when you do, God gives you reasons to need it! A better prayer would be to thank Spirit for having patience in abundance. When you know for certain that you possess a trait or characteristic then you do not have the need to keep proving it. When things work in Divine Order there is no effort needed on our part to make things happen. In fact, if you have to work to make a thing happen, then the odds are that it is either not the right thing for you or the timing is not right. I have two personal examples of divine timing to share as an illustration.
Whether it’s a new house, a much-needed car or the perfect job, the timing must be right. If you manipulate things and pull strings to get the job you have applied for, you may discover a week or a month later that the dream job you have wanted for years is now available. It could have been yours if you had just been patient a little longer and let Spirit handle it. You may decide that you need the sofa today and you refuse to wait any longer, then it goes on sale a month later, too late to get any kind of refund on the difference. Again, had you waited, you would have had the sofa and more money for other accessories to go with it. Always remember that if you have to make it happen as opposed to allowing it to happen, the object or situation may not be in your best interests in the long run. On the other hand, if things move smoothly and quickly, Spirit is at hand preparing the way and assuring you that this is God’s will for you at this time. Remember God answers prayer in several different ways. Yes, no, and not at this time. It is always in the Divine right time! |
